How can I remove your code snippet from my Shopify theme?

IMPORTANT: Our recommended way of cleaning your theme, is to head to the “Settings” section in our AccessibilitySpark app Dashboard, and to click the “Remove Snippet” button there.

In the cases where the “Remove Snippet” button was not used and the App was uninstalled, AccessibilitySpark does leave a small amount of residual code. This code is very small and does not load any scripts if your Widget was disabled at the time of uninstalling. Therefore, it will not compromise your website’s loading speeds.

If you’d like to remove it anyways, you have found the right guide. Please note that if you still have AccessibilitySpark installed, following these steps may cause our App to malfunction.

Please note that you also have the option to reinstall our App and head to the “Settings” section in order to use the “Remove Snippet” button there which is fully automated.

Also, as a general rule, we strongly recommend duplicating your theme before making any edits – this also applies to removing residual code.

You can follow this guide to remove the AccessibilitySpark’s snippet from your Shopify theme files:

  1. Head to your Shopify Admin Dashboard and Click on Click on Online Store and then pick Themes. From there, click on the button with the 3 dots (…) and select Edit code.

2. On the left hand side of the next screen, look for an item named “theme.liquid” It may be further down your list in your screen and theme. Once you find it, click on it.

3. In this file, scroll down until you find a section with our App Snippet which starts with

<!-- ACCESSIBILITYSPARK START -->

We recommend searching using using CTRL+F on Windows, or CMD+F on Mac for the text ACCESSIBILITYSPARK START

    <!-- ACCESSIBILITYSPARK START -->
    {% render 'accessibility-spark-widget' %}
    <!-- ACCESSIBILITYSPARK END -->

Once you find this code, please remote the whole block of code, starting with the line <!– ACCESSIBILITYSPARK START –> and ending at the line <!– ACCESSIBILITYSPARK END –>. Do not remove any code that is not contained between those two lines.

IMPORTANT: BEFORE MAKING ANY MODIFICATION TO YOUR THEME, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP. WE RECOMMEND WORKING WITH A DEVELOPER IN ORDER TO MAKE THEME MODIFICATIONS. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO REMOVE CODE FROM A THEME FILE, REACH OUT TO OUR SUPPORT TEAM AND WE WILL HELP YOU.

4. Once you are done with the modification, hit Save in the top right of the page to save your changes.
